attila the great

A guy walks up to me from behind and asks me for a lighter. Me: “Sorry, I don’t smoke”.

Guy: “Well, that’s good. And I just had a boy.”
“Congratulations! What will be his name?”
“Attila”
“That’s a good name, very Hungarian.”
“Yeah, he’ll be very strong, too.”
“Once again, congratulations.”
“Thank you, I mean, I already have 2 girls, you know.”

I didn’t really know what to say so I replied “Well, a boy will certainly add a lot to your family.”
“Yes, you know, I love my girls and would die for them at any moment, but a boy, you know, a boy is something else. He is, I mean, he will carry the family name on, you understand.”

I had to cross the street so I quickly told him “That’s right. Sorry, I have to turn here but all the best, man!”
“Thank you!” With a smile he walks away, taking a sip from a pocket flask. I regret I didn’t ask him about his last name, the name his son will one day carry on.
