p!nk in budapest

Rather spontaneously yesterday I decided to attend P!NK’s Budapest concert in the Sport Arena yesterday. I am not that much a fan of her songs to be honest (I actually only know one or two songs) but I think that she is a terribly hot babe and I felt like taking the opportunity to see her live.

And there I was. Too lazy to stand I got myself a convenient seat in the upper price category, not too far from the stage. I was surrounded by girlies, many of them with at least one part of their parents and all dressed up as little P!NKs. Funny.

The opening act were The Queens of Noize, a blend of Courtney Love on speed, MTV’s Charlotte Roche and the Dixie Chicks. Their opening program, which consisted of playing records was unfortunately rather weak though: along with their 80s collection of records they also brought their wardrobe of the same era. While playing their records they performed rather funny looking dances and distributed candy (or LSD perhaps?) in the pit. During their entire gig I wasn’t able to determine whether they were musicians, DJs or why they would carry the name Queens of Noize at all. At one point they tried to encourage a few young guys from the audience to enter the stage but the fact that they spoke English with a very heavy Brit accent made it difficult for the crowd to really follow their invitation. Afterall two brave guys seemed to have understood what they were trying to communicate and climbed onto the stage. They were asked to perform a silly dance and I wasn’t sure if this was a concert for adults or a kiddy afternoon entertainment program at Club Med.

After this pre-P!NK performance, the parents still had time to get Pepsis and posters for their kids and at around 8 the concert started. It’s funny when you attend a concert and everybody around you sings along, only you don’t have a clue about the lyrics because you basically hear the songs for the first time. P!NK’S performance was pretty amazing, though. Hard to describe, one of those You-have-to-see-it-to-understand-what-I-mean things: all in all it was clearly sex, drugs and rock’n roll, although she seemed pretty sober this time. I have seen a lot of low waist cut pants so far (this is Budapest after all) but what she was wearing was beyond anything I have ever seen: they were so low they deserve their own category really. In the middle of the concert I missed half a song as I was outside with a security guard discussing why I do not feel like handing over my (illegally brought in) camera. Somehow I was able to convince him that I would simply put it away and not take any (more) pictures. Now either this was the dumbest security guard I have ever met or he was simply the nicest. I was stupid though as I forgot to switch off the flash in the first place, otherwise they would have never noticed anyway. No more pictures as of that moment then.

The concert lasted almost 2 ½ hours and was really worth it. Like I said, she is really hot. And in the end it was at least partly a concert for adults, especially after the part with the sex dolls (one looked like Christina Aguilera) and then very much when two of her female dancers danced topless and the whole thing went into a very kinky direction. After all – despite all the glamour and the glitter – she still is a punk and so accordingly the message on the video screen after the concert was “The End! F#ck Off!”
